On-line Co-op Student Work Assignment Evaluation
The Office of Cooperative Education & Career Services receives hundreds of paper co-op evaluation forms from students every quarter. These forms must be processed manually, and copies must be made and then sent to and stored in a number of locations. Furthermore, once submitted, the forms are not easily available to students, who may wish to view records of their previous co-ops. The Co-Op Office wishes to replace this system with an electronic one in which students would evaluate their co-ops through a web-based form. Submission by the student and assessment by members of the Office would take place electronically, and distribution of the forms to the appropriate parties could be done electronically as well. The new system would also facilitate analysis of evaluation data and could enable students to easily view their previously submitted evaluations on-line.
Pinnacle Pro Routing Module
Our team will be responsible for developing the routing module for Pinnacle Professional. This module will incorporate two shipping methods from the original Pinnacle system: internal routing which uses the yards own trucks, and external/manual which makes use of major couriers but requires manual data entry. The module will also include a new external/integrated method which similarly makes use of major couriers, but automates much of the process. The new method will use web-based interfaces provided by major couriers to perform tasks such as arrange shipments, get tracking numbers, and print shipping labels.
Relay Equivalent Drawing Program
The current Relay Equivalent Drawing Program is written in the C programming language utilizing an INTERGRAPH CAD system. The new system shall modernize the existing one, improving the system documentation, algorithms, and reusability. There is hope that some components may be able to be incorporated into other computer aided design systems used by ALSTOM. The new system shall utilize the same input files and produce similar output files; however, it shall not require the use of a commercial CAD system to produce this output. The relay drawings (output) can be directly printed to be included in the Book of Plans.
Spell Check for TCN
Our project is a software component designed to assist users of TCNs KnowledgeTrac software in refining search terms to increase their success in finding web and directory results relevant to their search terms. Our software will stand alone from the larger KnowledgeTrac suite, analyze search terms, and compare them to existing dictionaries containing English words, business names, and domain specific terminology to suggest potentially more successful search terms. These dictionaries must support dynamic addition of new phrases and terms. Spell Checkers functionality will be transparent to the end user and will silently analyze search terms, only offering alternate suggestions if the search terms are clearly unlikely to return useful search results. The system learns based on successful suggestions, and is capable of suggesting related searches to further expand the potential result set.
- The tool will enable students to submit assignments for grading via a web interface. Administrators via a separate web interface will specify the parameters for an assignment. Graders of assignments will have a third view of the system, in which they can monitor and assess the results of automated tests.
Extensible Steganographic Database Interface
The Air Force Research Lab needs the ability to easily gather groups of images from a database. The database and the images themselves are very large. The images should be retrievable by various criteria and automatically packaged into a portable archive format (a zip file, for example). The images themselves must be converted to one of many formats (jpeg, gif, etc.) before packaging. Image processing algorithms (blurring, encrypting, etc.) may be performed on each image before packaging. It must be easy to add new image formats and new image processing algorithms after the product is delivered. The other important project artifact is the project itself. It is important that we illustrate the benefits of a process by producing clear, appropriate, consistent, and useful documents. The process will be based on the Spiral Model, an iterative methodology used by the Department of Defense.
Graphical Report Maker
RIT ITS Systems Management is responsible for the generation of real time data, historical data, graphs plus reports on the capacity, availability and responsiveness of ITS supported services. This data is used to show ITS systems performance to customers, support staff and RIT leadership to assist in making technical and business related decisions. Currently ITS utilizes many commercial off the shelf (COTS) products to perform these tasks and even though these tools are adequate for technical and engineering staff use, they lack ability to show system wide status and performance in a method deliverable to end-users and management. The goal of this project is to develop a toolset to allow end-users to create a report containing self-selected data elements and presenting them in the manner the user sees fit. The project will extract data from the database and analyze the data using appropriate statistical libraries and graphing the results against appropriate variables and publishing the results into a file and/or the web.
On-line Co-op Evaluation System
The RIT Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services desires to migrate a mostly paper process for evaluating and assessing co-op assignments to an electronic one. The current process involves using postal mail to distribute and return forms, managing paper records in the co-op office, and sometimes scanning paper documents to create electronic versions for distribution. This process is time consuming and wastes paper. It is also not conducive to analyzing the data collected from both employers and students, which is important for gathering information about student growth and development for academic program evaluation and accreditation. This project proposes to enhance this evaluation process by developing a web-based system with greater ease of use to both employers and students and with significantly strengthened analysis and reporting tools.
