RIT's primary mission is career education in a variety of professional disciplines. Within engineering and computing this is interpreted to mean that graduates will have the knowledge and skills that:
- Help them obtain initial positions in their chosen fields.
- Support continued education at the graduate level.
- Provide a solid foundation for life-long professional growth.
In a field changing as rapidly as software engineering, reaching these goals is a daunting challenge. Still, it is our belief that the field has matured to the point where fundamental principles have been established, and these principles provide the background for specific program objectives and outcomes.
Program Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science degree program in software engineering at RIT are expected, within a few years of graduation, to have:
- demonstrated an ability to develop software systems of varying size and complexity through the use of fundamental software engineering knowledge, work at various abstraction levels, and with appropriate tools, technologies, and practices; (PEO1: Software System Designers)
- demonstrated an ability to incorporate and manage domain-appropriate software processes, methodologies, and quality practices in software product development; (PEO2: Software Product Developers)
- demonstrated an ability to be effective as both an individual contributor and a member of a development team with professional, ethical, and social responsibilities; (PEO3: Engineering Professionals)
- demonstrated an ability to improve and expand skills through formal education, participation in professional activities, acquisition of new technical proficiencies, or development of managerial and leadership skills. (PEO4: Life-Long Learners)
