Introduction to Kayla Davis

19 Sep 2014

Hi! My name is Kayla Davis.

I am a second year Software Engineering major. Currently, I am active in the Society of Software Engineers as both the Secretary and a mentor. This last summer, I had the exciting and intellectually gratifying opportunity of working on the Chromium History project. Working on Chromium History this summer allowed me to learn about the software process, security, multiple frameworks, research methodology, and a handful of languages. It was a great experience!

In the beginning of the summer, I was introduced to a project that was already pulling data from about 160000 Code Reviews and 667 CVEs. The past team had started to explore many different options as to what we could do with all that information, and had statistics generated from the raw data. I was able to touch a lot of different parts of the project, including, but not limited to: ..+ Gathering source lines of code data on Chromium source files ..+ Gathering Chromium Sherriff Rotation data and matching total hours of sheriff to a developer ..+ Added the framework, and gave examples, for building histograms and scatter plots in R of our gathered code review data ..+ Parsing bug data

It was a fantastic experience that definitely benefits me both as a student and a job-searcher. I’m excited to continue to work on the Chromium History project this year. We have a lot of data to pull from, and it’s exciting to see where we might go and what questions we can answer.
