Co-Op Student Evaluation Project
Meeting Minutes - 12/7/04
- Everything that we email to the co-op people should also be sent to the ITS contact (Mark)
- Will be done with college of engineering and school of engineering technology
- Ways we will make system more manageable
- scaling down the scope
- will have been through key testing by/in May
- We will have two main users:
- us (the students)
- the administration (the people who will be using the data after it's collected)
- Will be two kinds of questions
- rank questions (from 1 to 5)
- they will be extracting statistics from this
- this scale will be used for everything (will not change)
- there are comments associated with each of these questions
- might want to have keyword searching through the comments
- also, if possible, might want to look for
phrases/keywords and track statistics from this
information
- essay questions
- text that will be directly captured
- The data is going to need to be able to be directly viewed as
well as exported into other formats
- the user should be able to select the specific information they want exported
- We are free to develop our own process, but we need to document it
- We should get a Project Plan going soon
- should have the roles/break down of work in this document
- Don't think of a faculty member as the "model user"
- will usually not be a faculty member but a support employee
- shouldn't take what a faculty member would know for granted
- Different groupings of results/students should be taken into consideration
- possible groupings
- by graduation year
- by quarter
- by which co-op it is (1st, 2nd, etc.)
- should be able to bring up employer for student, or vice-versa
- possibly view both at once
- possibly view all students for an employer
- Look into ways to remind students that they have something to do
- let them know that they still have some to do or have
not submitted a form yet and the due date is coming
up (possibly through email notifications)
- They are going to look into the ways that the different
departments are going to want students to access the sites
- Dr. Contomanolis and the co-op department are going to find this out for us
- Where are we going to put the website (where is its "home" going to be)?
- possibly on JobZone
- they will get back to us with this information
- Will definitely be important (probably most important)
- Don't necessarily need to be committed to the current style
- Definitely have room to come up with a new or modified user interface for the students
- Should most likely stick with the current back-end user interface and/or extend the current one
- There should (most likely) be a single site for getting the results of both the student and the employer evaluation results
- Printing the information should be taken into consideration
- Usability testing
- Look into doing the evaluation in stages
- Chris is going to pick up the Co-Op computer sometime tomorrow afternoon
- Get a list of the issues that came up during the move and the changes that were required after the system went online
- Need to start getting some requirements going
- Figure out when to go over and see their system running and get in touch with them about this
- Schedule a meeting with Mark (from ITS)
- Are going to get a list of all of the questions, scales, and possible responses from Dr. Contomanolis tomorrow (12/8/04)
- Exporting the data to a format for use with either Access or Excel (on a non-Unix workstation)
- Database storing/schemas
- what are the hooks that we are going to need to deal with
- what is the extent of the reporting that they are thinking for us
- need to find out about what technologies are going to be used and what research is needed
- when does Dr. Naveda plan on meeting with us next week
