Process

The process below will be followed for the four class sessions held in the weeks of October 27 and November 3. Each session will cover one of the four remaining chapters we've selected, namely 14, 15, 16, and 18 (in that order).

  1. Every student is to read the chapter for the session before the indicated class meeting. The reading schedule is given in the table following this process description.

  2. With the exception of the first class in the week of October 27, the session will begin with a review of the answers to the questions due that day. This may well involve random selection of class members to present their team's answer to a given question. This portion of the class will last 20-30 minutes.

  3. The instructors will give a short (20-30 minute) context lecture at the start of each class meeting on the chapter assigned for that day.

  4. The mini-lecture will be followed by a class Q&A period on the topics in the assigned chapter. This will last as long as necessary.

  5. Each team will then work on answers to the chapter questions or their architecture case study. NOTE: Team's may organize their work any way they wish, but keep the following points in mind:

    1. Everyone is expected to be able to answer every question during the following class session.

    2. The questions will form the basis for the third exam, given during the last session of the last week of classes - and this exam will be closed book.

  6. Some of the activities associated with the readings will have to be done on an individual basis, and these activities will contribute 4 of the 15 points available for this unit. The remaining 11 points will be assigned based on the team's answers to the team questions (both written and in response to random selection during class).

    1. Individual assignments will be weighted equally in assigning the 4 points.

    2. For team assignments, 90% of the total points will be considered perfect.
