Mid Project Presentations

Importance of Presentations

Presentations are an important component of not only the undergraduate software engineering program, but being a software engineer. Presentations are a great way to demonstrate progress, update stakeholders about project status and receive feedback from audience. Throughout your career you will likely be asked to conduct numerous presentations, either in person or virtually. The objective of today's class is to provide you experience in creating technical presentations.

Presentation Creation (30 minutes)

Plan, prepare, and rehearse the presentation. Every team should create a shared presentation file, and all members should collaborate on creating the slides. Here is a template to start with. We advise that you create a Google Slides version of this document to share among teammates. Some things that you should include in your presentation include:

Presentation

  1. Your team will be assigned to another team to present to (5-10 minutes).
  2. During the presentations, the team being presented to should create:
    1. Questions about the project.
    2. Recommendations regarding the presentation (content or presentation/structure).
    3. One specific area to focus on is the team's risks and risk mitigation strategy.
  3. After the first team presents, switch roles and have the other team present. The team being presented to should similarly create questions and recommendations.
  4. After this round of presentations, you should incorporate the collected feedback into your presentation.
  5. If time allows, teams will once again present to one another, this time with the collected feedback incorporated into the proposal.
