Software Engineering in Our World
Activity:
- Work with your assigned group on an assigned industry or area of society:
- Education
- Manufacturing and Robotics
- Healthcare
- Security and Forensics
- Economics and Finance
- Embedded Systems
- Politics and Public Policy
- Entertainment
- Each team is to create a creative slideshow or flyer presenting to a general audience. (For example, you are returning to your high school's engineering night to explain what Software Engineering is about). Start by sharing your thoughts from below resources and other research and use the following as guideline:
- What is software engineering and how does it differ from other computing fields?
- How is software engineering reflected in the world around us?
- How does our field respond to and/or contribute to a continuously changing world in the context of the assigned industry or area of society?
- What software engineering ethics are observed in the assigned industry?
- What careers exist in software engineering for the assigned industry or area of society?
- What are examples of companies (besides obvious ones like Microsoft) that hire software engineers for the assigned industry or area of society?
- RIT Policy on Academic Dishonesty RIT Policy on Academic Dishonesty including plagiarism and Student Affairs.
- Cite references appropriately for any media and text used from sources. (how to cite in the text and how to create the reference list). There are tools out there to help you (e.g. EasyBib, Citation Machine, EndNote, etc.). Look around and choose one that meets your needs. If you don't have references, then you will not get credit for the activity.
- Submit it to the myCourses drop box "Activity- Week 1" by deadline policy indicated on schedule. Make sure to include the names of all the team participants within the document and in the "Comments" area.
