Project Deliverable - Ideation Phase:
Motto and Values (Individual)
Assignment
Previous elicitation/brainstorming and requirements capturing have helped solidify the idea/purpose/scope of your team project. However, in order for this project to "have wings" it is important that every individual team member revisit the underlying tenents and values by which you are driven to act professionally as well as the values that the project itself must uphold in working towards the goal(s).
As a first step for this assignment create a list of values that you consider most important to abide by in your professional life. Try to make this list as comprehensive as possible, a dozen terms may be about right but feel free to go beyond that. Once you are satisfied with the list, arrange them in order of priority, with the most important value at the top.
For the second step of the assignment keep in mind that you have, at this point, read about various ethical theories at a high-level (Utilitarianism, Duty, Rights and Virtue ethics). These are helpful in understanding the types of real-world problems that you may encounter while engineering your future product(s). Use what you have learned and the list you created in the previous step to complete the following:
As a way of declaring your ethical norms, you need to come up with a personal "original" Motto. You may consider the context of your product but more importantly it must exemplify the personal/social values/behaviors/morals that you subscribe to and would like to proyect onto your project work ethic. Mottos are typically short (1 or two sentences). Please note this is not to be confused with a slogan.
As a final step write a few paragraphs describing a potential future scenario in which your team could encounter a situation that conflicts with your values and/or is in violation of your Motto. Be as specific as possible in framing this situation and then describe what actions you would personally take to mitigate/resolve.
Submission Instructions
Capture and clearly label the results of your three steps into a (PDF) document and submit to the myCourses folder "Motto and Values (individual)" by deadline policy indicated on schedule.
