Project Synopsis

Our senior project team, The Mounties, will be picking up where last year's team, Out Cold, left off. Development of the Mountain Medic Android application will continue, with a focus on overall improvement based on testing feedback provided by the sponsors. Mountain Medic is an application for recording patient data on a mobile device for use by ski patrollers in situations requiring pre-hospital care. Patient data includes personal identification coupled with equipment and scenario information as well as injury and treatment information. The application is able to synchronize with a server hosting a database to allow for printing and storing of physical records.

In addition to improvement of the current application, focus will also be placed on expanding the application's functionality, both on the server side and on the client/application side. Initial work will cover server setup and deployment, preparing the application for use in the field for testing. Work will then shift to improving and expanding server functionality, such as performance improvements and implementations of a backup process for record data. Further efforts will cover the application's usability with focus on improving the interface both visually and functionally. Later improvements include expanding the application's support for additional forms and usage scenarios. All work done on the application will take current HIPAA standards into consideration.
