PantryPal is a mobile app that helps households track the food they have on hand and reduce waste. Users maintain inventory by scanning barcodes when a product is purchased or used up, and the app tracks estimated expiration dates, suggests recipes based on what's about to expire, and generates shopping lists when products run low. Households can share a single pantry across family members, so anyone can check what's available before buying duplicates. The app also lets users log leftovers and set reminders to use them. PantryPal's goal is to reduce the average household's food waste and grocery spending. It is intended for home cooks and families, particularly those managing a shared household. The app must work well even in a kitchen with unreliable Wi-Fi, and label scanning should feel fast enough to use for an entire grocery haul without becoming a chore.
Groomba™ is an autonomous robotic lawn mower for residential yards. Homeowners set up Groomba by walking it around the yard's perimeter once using a companion app, which the robot uses to build a map of the mowing area and any off-limit areas (flower beds, pools, play areas). Once mapped, Groomba mows on a schedule the homeowner sets, navigating around obstacles and returning to its charging dock automatically when the battery is low. Groomba must stop moving immediately if a person, pet, or other obstacle unexpectedly enters its path. Because many yards have inconsistent cellular coverage, Groomba must be able to complete a mowing session using only its onboard sensors, without relying on a live network connection. Groomba should be able to adjust its mowing schedule based on information from a weather service, pausing or rescheduling sessions when poor weather is expected. The app lets homeowners view mowing history, adjust the schedule, and receive an alert if Groomba gets stuck or the yard map needs to be redone.
