Correlation Activity
For this activity, you will form groups of 3 students. Each group will design and implement a brief correlation
study. Your group should focus on a simple (informal) yet relevant study to the field of Software Engineering. For
example, one
study could investigate if there is a correlation between the user rating of a mobile app and its size. You can
utilize an existing dataset, such as those published at the MSR
conference, or you can mine your own data.
For this activity, each group should create a presentation containing, at a minimum, the following:
- Research Question(s)/Hypothesis:
- What will you be trying to show?
- What implications will your results have?
- Why will your results be meaningful and what impact will they have?
- Methodology / Experiment Design:
- What data will you collect? How will you collect this data?
- What data will you not collect?
- What type of correlation (Spearman, Pearson, Kendell, etc...) will you use and why?
- Identify Threats to:
- Data Collection
- Data Verification (how do you know that they data you've collected is accurate and properly represents the examined sample)
- Other technical challenges
- Results & Summary
Submission Instructions
The group presentation should be uploaded to MyCourses. Each group will present their work (5 to 8 minutes) during regular class hours.
