The instructors will leave the lab for the first 15 minutes to allow teams to form. The only constraints are that:
All team members must be from the same lab section,
There may be no more than four teams in any lab section,
Each team must have 4-6 members -- no more, no less -- with 5 members being optimum.
If at the end of the 15 minute period it proves impossible to form teams in accordance with these guidelines, the instructor will create teams at his or her discretion.
As soon as possible, but certainly no later than the end of the day this lab meets, each team must send an email to the lab instructor giving the name of the team and the SE accounts of all team members. From this your instructor will have a team account created as well as a discussion forum on mycourses.rit.edu under 4010-440-01 (the lecture, not the lab). The instructor and team members will all be members of the team account group, and all will also be members (the only members) of the team's discussion forum. The initial password for the team account will be sent by email to all team members; it is each team's responsibility to keep their instructor apprised of any password changes.
The project itself is to create a prototype for an email client called MailMan. The focus is on the overall architecture, though detail design and quality implementation of the prototype will also be assessed. Teams should peruse the information on what is expected each week until delivery - links to this information are contained in the lab activities table on the course home page, as well as on the lab activity description pages themselves.
The team should then retrieve the MS/Word skeleton document ArchDesign.doc, save it, and fill it in according to the embedded instructions. If you have any concerns about the layout or instructions in that document, please discuss it with your instructor in advance of the deadline.
Aside from any version control plans, the team must also make a directory p-w1 for (project week 1) in the team's home directory and place a copy of the completed ArchDesign.doc in this directory no later than two days prior to the next lab session. While the architecture document is a deliverable for this lab, it will be graded in conjunction with the initial architecture presentation and discussion in the following lab.
Remember: Your instructor is also a member of your team's group, so make sure that:
Grading for the lab will be based on the following factors:
